Mission Carbon is an AI-powered sustainability learning platform that helps users learn about sustainability, the environment, and conscious living through lessons, quizzes, AI assistance, gamification, progress tracking, Leaves, streaks, badges, and future image-recognition features.

This Privacy Policy explains how Mission Carbon collects, uses, stores, and protects personal information when users interact with our website, app, learning platform, AI Assistant, quizzes, onboarding, and related services.

By using Mission Carbon, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

Mission Carbon may collect the following types of information:

Account Information

  • Name or display name
  • Email address
  • Password or authentication information
  • Account preferences
  • Login information

Onboarding Information

During onboarding, Mission Carbon may ask questions about sustainability habits, lifestyle choices, and environmental awareness. This may include information about:

  • Transportation habits
  • Recycling habits
  • Water usage
  • Energy habits
  • Shopping behavior
  • Clothing and beauty product choices
  • Daily sustainability habits

Learning and Progress Data

Mission Carbon may collect information about user activity, including:

  • Completed lessons
  • Locked and unlocked lessons
  • Quiz answers and quiz results
  • Leaves earned
  • Streak activity
  • Badges earned
  • Learning path progress
  • Onboarding completion
  • Recommended lessons

AI Assistant Data

When users use the AI Sustainability Assistant, Mission Carbon may collect:

  • Questions typed by users
  • AI-generated responses
  • Chat history
  • Feedback about answers
  • General usage information

If a user uses Mission Carbon without an account, AI chat history may not be permanently saved. If a user creates an account, AI chat history may be linked to that account.

Technical and Usage Data

Mission Carbon may automatically collect:

  • Device type
  • Browser type
  • Operating system
  • IP address
  • App or website usage events
  • Pages or screens visited
  • Session duration
  • Error logs
  • Performance data
  • Approximate location based on IP address

Future Image Recognition Data

Mission Carbon may introduce image-recognition features in the future. If launched, users may be able to upload or take photos of products, labels, packaging, recycling symbols, clothing, beauty products, or similar items.

If enabled, Mission Carbon may process uploaded images to provide sustainability summaries, recycling information, and alternative suggestions. This Privacy Policy will be updated before launching any image-recognition feature that materially changes how personal data is collected or processed.

3. How We Use Information

Mission Carbon may use information to:

  • Create and manage user accounts
  • Provide lessons, quizzes, and platform features
  • Recommend lessons based on onboarding answers
  • Save progress, Leaves, streaks, badges, and quiz results
  • Provide AI Assistant responses
  • Store AI chat history for logged-in users
  • Improve lessons, quizzes, and platform content
  • Analyse usage and improve product performance
  • Detect bugs, errors, abuse, or security issues
  • Communicate service updates
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Develop future features, including image recognition

Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR — EEA & UK)

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, Mission Carbon relies on the following legal bases under GDPR Art. 6 to process personal data:

  • Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing necessary to provide account-based features, save learning progress, and deliver the service you have signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): Security monitoring, error detection, analytics, product improvement, and preventing abuse — where our interests do not override your rights.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Optional analytics cookies, marketing communications (where applicable), and features where you have given explicit consent. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): Retaining records required by applicable law and responding to lawful requests from public authorities.

4. AI Processing

Mission Carbon uses AI-powered features to provide sustainability-related answers, learning support, and future image-based analysis.

AI-generated answers may be imperfect, incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. The AI Assistant is designed for general educational purposes only and should not be treated as professional, legal, financial, medical, environmental compliance, or scientific advice.

Users should not enter sensitive personal information into the AI Assistant unless necessary.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Mission Carbon may use cookies, local storage, analytics tools, or similar technologies to:

  • Keep users logged in
  • Remember preferences
  • Understand how the platform is used
  • Improve performance
  • Measure marketing effectiveness
  • Detect errors and security issues

Where required, Mission Carbon will request consent before using non-essential cookies or tracking technologies.

6. Sharing Information

Mission Carbon does not sell personal information.

Mission Carbon may share information with trusted service providers who help operate the platform, such as:

  • AI chat history may be kept for logged-in users unless deleted according to applicable policies.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / EEA & UK)

If you are located in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with equivalent data protection legislation, you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Request deletion of your account and personal data (Art. 17)

Delete your account

You can delete your account in the app — go to the Profile tab and tap Delete Account. Your account and all associated data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. To have all data removed immediately, you can send a deletion request by email instead.

9. Security

Mission Carbon uses reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

However, no online service is completely secure. Users are responsible for keeping login credentials safe.

10. Children's Privacy

Mission Carbon is not intended for children under 13 without appropriate consent from a parent or guardian.

If Mission Carbon learns that it has collected personal information from a child without required consent, it will take steps to delete it.

11. International Data Transfers

Mission Carbon may use service providers located in different countries. This means personal information may be processed outside the user's country of residence.

Where required, Mission Carbon will use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Mission Carbon may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If material changes are made, users may be notified through the app, website, email, or another appropriate method.

The updated version will be indicated by the "Last updated" date.

13. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). This section describes those rights and how to exercise them.

We Do Not Sell or Share Your Personal Information

Mission Carbon does not sell personal information to third parties. Mission Carbon does not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising purposes. You have the right to opt out of any such sale or sharing — though none currently takes place.

Your California Rights

  • Right to Know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, and the purposes for which it is used.
  • Right to Access: Obtain a copy of the specific personal information Mission Carbon holds about you.
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal information we have collected, subject to limited exceptions (e.g. legal obligations).
  • Right to Correct (CPRA): Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Mission Carbon does not currently sell or share personal information.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information (CPRA): Request that Mission Carbon limit the use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the service.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: Mission Carbon will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights — including by denying service, charging different prices, or providing a lesser quality of service.

How to Submit a California Rights Request

California residents may submit a request to exercise any of the above rights by emailing:

Include: your name and the email address linked to your Mission Carbon account, and specify the right you wish to exercise.

Mission Carbon will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. For complex requests, this may be extended by a further 45 days with notice.
